People to Hold You Up

11 And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses’ hands became[a]heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. (Exodus 17:11-12 NKJV)

Some stories in the scriptures read just like that, a story. However, all contain something that can be applied in our lives today.

The Israelites were in a battle with Amalek. As long as Moses held his hands up they prevailed, but when he tired of this and lowered his hands they began to lose the battle. Was God testing Moses arm strength? No, He was showing him that he needed help. We need brothers (or sisters) like Aaron and Hur. People to come alongside us when we need them to pray for us and help hold us up.

Many men do not make a place in their lives for brothers to help them. This is common and has been written about extensively. I am even bad about not letting other men into my life and that makes for a very lonely place.

Reflect on: Who you have in your life that can be an Aaron and a Hur, to hold you up when you are tired.
